SILMO d’Or 2020 Best Sunglasses and Frames

SILMO d’Or is one of the most important design competitions in the optical industry, which takes place annually in Paris as part of the SILMO professional exhibition. The SILMO D’Or Awards recognize design creativity, innovation, and technology in the field of optics and this event certainly captures the attention of the entire industry.

Every year, the SILMO exhibition determines the trends and directions of development of optical fashion around the world for the whole year. Many well-known and little-known companies from everywhere presented their collections of sunglasses and optical frames.

Since 1994, the exhibition has awarded the international prize SILMO d’Or in several categories, such as Innovative technologies, Fashionable sunglasses, Fashionable medical frames, Designer medical frames, Designer sunglasses frames, Children’s frames.

This year, the 27th annual awards ceremony took place in a virtual format and was broadcasted live on Silmo social media. The awards committee paid a tribute to the forward-looking companies that, continue to create new products and drive the industry forward.

The following models participated in the Optical Frame “Fashion Trend” nomination: Wanted by Azzaro, Tigris by Chantal Thomass, Blondie C20 created by the Berenice brand, DB 1024 from the latest David Beckham eyewear collection, BA 1032 from ba & sh.

Tigris by Chantal Thomass has become the winner of this category. The model features a classic time-tested shape in the style of Windsor. The signature style of the Windsor frame is the metal frame with an acetate edging. The uncoated portion of the rim at the bridge of the nose lends an original sound to the classic shape. As we can see, the classics in a modern interpretation never lose their relevance and are always at the top.

Models Brian from Zilli, MJ 7015 by Maje, LILO / S by Jimmy Choo, CC 4049S from Carven were nominated for the Sunglasses”Fashion Trend”  category. The competition in this category won Marc 451 / S from Marc Jacobs eyewear collection created by Safilo.

These Marc Jacobs shades inspired by the eighties combine an oval silhouette with some stunning details. The vintage effect of this acetate frame is enhanced by the combination of white and gold and the very flat tinted lenses. The temples are made of metal but covered with acetate. The brand’s inscription is engraved on the temples. Again Marc Jacobs proved to be one of the brightest designers of the century.

3 models competed in the Sports Glasses category: CHRONOSHIELD from BOLLÉ, S’TRACK 2.0 created by CÉBÉ, and the COMPETITION SP0001 by Adidas, which won and received the jury’s recognition.

The Competition SP 0001 from the latest Adidas eyewear collection of the Italian company Marcolin is a truly innovative and designer sports sunglass model. The super lightweight frame, anti-fog ventilation, and lens replacement system, the anti-skid system on the temples specially developed by the designers for this model of glasses – all this deserves the highest appreciation.
